We are very pleased and proud to have renewed our contract to operate this important rail link in the Rhine Valley, against several competitors, and we would like to thank the transit authorities for the trust they have placed in us. We are strongly committed to daily mobility, enabling passengers to go by without their cars and fully enjoy their journey on board. This renewal will also enable us to secure Trans Regio's 145 jobs in the long term.

Thierry Mallet, Chairman and CEO of Transdev Group

In addition to improving passenger comfort on board the trains, Transdev will also invest in the expansion of its own depot in Koblenz. Trans Regio has already been operating this railway line in the Upper Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, since 2008 under the brand name MittelrheinBahn.

In addition, the Transdev Group has also strengthened its position in the bus sector in the region. In the immediate vicinity of the MittelrheinBahn, Transdev will take over three large bus networks with more than 80 bus lines in the Mayen-Koblenz district from December 2021. Operations on the left bank of the Rhine will be handled by 180 new air-conditioned low-floor buses with on-board Wi-Fi for an initial period of ten years, with a total workforce of 270 employees.
Recently, Transdev also renewed its urban and intercity bus contract for Bautzen (Saxony) for 10 years, from 2022 to 2031, where the group will carry on operating more than 100 lines with 250 buses covering more than 12 million kms annually. Transdev has been Bautzen’s mobility partner for over 25 years.
With 2021 defined by the European Union as the “European Year of Rail”, Transdev is continuing its commitment to regional railways, serving daily passengers. In the context of the liberalization of regional rail services in France, Transdev is positioning itself firmly on this new market so that French regions (Région Sud, Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, etc.) and passengers can benefit from its experience and expertise acquired over more than 25 years in several markets that have already been liberalized, notably in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and New Zealand.

On June 27, Transdev and its Swedish subsidiary Snälltåget will inaugurate a new daily trans-European rail link, by night train, connecting three European capitals: Stockholm, Copenhagen and Berlin. Finally, in 2022, Transdev will take over the operation of the three Roslagsbanan rail lines in Sweden, a network of suburban trains around Stockholm, departing from Stockholm East station.

The Group’s rail offering covers both regional lines such as urban and inter-city lines and “small lines” for serving specific areas.
