Every year Transdev Australasia recognize team members or Journey Makers as they are known in the region, who have gone above and beyond their role to deliver exceptional service.

Transdev Melbourne has been awarded the Team of the Year award in Transdev’s annual Journey Maker Awards for its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, delivering exceptional results and its contribution to Transdev’s success.

The awards, presented by Transdev Australasia, celebrate teams and individuals who have gone the extra mile to achieve.

The Melbourne bus team’s hard work over what has been an incredibly difficult year to deliver outstanding business transformation has been the talk of our colleagues both across Australasia and around the world.

This award is recognition of the collaboration among the team and their herculean effort to overcome significant challenges and deliver a safe, reliable and comfortable service for Victorians.

Ian Craig, Acting Managing Director, Transdev Melbourne

Transdev Melbourne was one of the first businesses to appoint a COVID-19 Officer to coordinate the business response to the pandemic. The tireless efforts of the team ensured we were able to continue to deliver an essential service throughout the coronavirus pandemic and ensure our people felt safe coming to work and our customers felt safe travelling.

Despite facing some significant challenges during the initial franchise phase, the Melbourne bus team has transformed the business by focusing on fundamentals and placing the customer at the center of all decision making. The approach has delivered outstanding results; in 2019/20 the team:

  • Met or exceeded all contractual KPIs
  • Improved safety including a 47% reduction in lost time injuries
  • Significantly improved the customer experience reducing customer complaints by more than 30% and Public Transport Ombudsman investigations by more than 60%
  • Increased punctuality and reliability to unprecedented levels, even before the impact of COVID-19
  • Launched Victoria’s first locally built, fully electric bus trial

Ongoing collaboration has also been critical to the transformation and the constructive working relationships we have built with the Department of Transportation, regulators and other stakeholders have strengthened the Melbourne bus operation.

The team were awarded $1000 as part of the prize which they elected to donate to Transdev Melbourne’s community partner, Very Special Kids, a children’s charity which supports families across Victoria who have a child with a life-threatening condition.

How can we help you to move forward?
