José Magalhães: 10 years of planning and managing for a better mobility

For José Magalhães the Group’s purpose “to empower freedom to move thanks to safe, reliable and innovative solutions that serve the common good” is at the heart of his daily work. We recently sat down with José to learn more about his career with Transdev and in the public transit industry.

For how long have you been working at Transdev?

I’ve been with the Group since 2012.

What is your job with Transdev?

As an Operational Planning Technician (OPT) it is my responsibility to carry out the best planning and management of rolling stock and human resources with the aim of providing safe and convenient mobility for passengers.

Can you tell us about your journey in the company?

I started my professional career at the company as an intern in February 2011, receiving the opportunity to continue working in this Group after completing the internship and joining Transdev in early 2012.

In this 10-year journey in the company, I had the opportunity, in addition to my tasks as OPT, to perform other cumulative roles, with different challenges, which allowed me, with the help of my direct management, to evolve both personally and professionally. Carrying out different tasks allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the company’s business, as well as a broader view of the Planning Technician role.

How does your job make sense in context of our Group’s purpose?

I believe that an Operational Planning Technician is one of the fundamental pillars for achieving Transdev’s mission. But Transdev’s mission can only be completed with the cooperation, commitment, and dedication of our employees (from Public Transportation Drivers to Ticket Technicians) who daily transport and defend Transdev’s reputation. These employees are the support base that conveys to all our passengers and customers that Transdev is a leading company in passenger transportation.

What are you most proud of in your career?

The greatest pride I have in my career is the possibility of witnessing the good work done by our drivers, which allows the company to acquire and preserve its customers, by continuously providing the best service, with the quality and safety required in the transport of passengers.

Did you have role models?

My personal and professional evolution in this company is fundamentally due to three people who helped me evolve and grow professionally and allowed me to become the person I am today: a co-worker with great spirit of mutual help and two members of the executive management who motivated me to always do better.
