Today and every day, we recognise the importance of women in engineering!
At Transdev Ireland, we’re proud to highlight the voices of three women who are making a meaningful impact in engineering at Transdev Dublin Light Rail: Dr. Sharmin Sultana, Pauline Burke, and Srilekha Chinthamadka.
Sharmin Sultana, PhD, Process and Quality Engineer, brings over nine years of experience across semiconductors, medical devices, and now public transport. With a PhD in Engineering Physics and a passion for process optimisation, Sharmin ensures that Transdev’s maintenance operations remain safe, efficient, and continuously improving.
“Engineering is the perfect blend of curiosity, creativity, and purpose,” she says. Sharmin’s message to future engineers? “Don’t let stereotypes hold you back. Engineering needs your ideas, creativity, and voice. Stay curious. Stay resilient.”
Pauline Burke, Engineering Project Manager, leads our Project Engineering Team, managing complex maintenance projects and long-term strategies to keep our fleet running smoothly.
“One of the most rewarding aspects,” Pauline shares, “is being part of a team of inspiring, talented engineers—and having a bit of fun along the way!“
Srilekha Chinthamadka, Maintenance Team Manager, oversees preventative tram maintenance and system reliability. With over a decade in rail, she is currently the only female maintenance manager at Transdev Ireland.
“Being in this role is not just professionally fulfilling—it’s a symbol of progress,” Srilekha says. “Women are underrepresented in maintenance leadership, but that’s changing.”
We are inspired by their stories, and proud to work alongside them as they shape a safer, open-minded future in transport.
To all the women shaping the future through engineering across Transdev Group.
Thank you.
