On July 29, the season’s first night train departed from Malmö via Stockholm to the Jämtland mountains in northwestern Sweden. Transdev’s commercial train service Snälltåget stared the season four weeks earlier this year and runs direct night trains twice a week during the period July 29 through September 27.

The Snälltåget’s night train takes passengers from Malmö via Lund, Hässleholm, Alvesta, Nässjö, Linköping, Norrköping, Stockholm, Uppsala to Östersund, Undersåker, Åre, Duved, Enafors and Storlien. The trains depart north on Wednesdays and Saturdays and return south on Thursdays and Sundays.

From Åre and Storlien, customers can start their mountain hike immediately, the trail starts a stone’s throw from the station Snälltåget also offers the possibility of transfers to Edsåsdalen, Vålådalen, Storulvån, Vemdalen, Ljungdalen and Ramundberget so that the customers can get closer to the popular hiking trails Jämtlandstriangeln, Vålådalsfyrkanten and Jämtlandsleden.

Mountain hiking and vacationing locally are the pandemic's footprints and more popular than ever. In the Swedish market we see an increased interest in taking the train to the Jämtland mountains and are therefore investing in starting the season four weeks earlier this year. We hope that the investment will be appreciated by travelers.

On board the train, its own compartment, recliner and seat are sold. The latter are sold in such a way that travelers can keep their distance during the pandemic.

Bring your bike on the train for only SEK 99 (€10)

Åre is a good starting point for those who are beginners in mountain hiking. Simpler day trips on Åreskutan can be combined with comfortable accommodations in a cottage or hotel and you can enjoy a good dinner in the evening. Åre also offers a lot for the cycling enthusiast, with both downhill and cross-country biking. If you travel with Snälltåget, you can bring your bike for SEK 99 (€10) in Snälltåget’s luggage coach.
