A+ dans l’Bus
A+ in the Bus: learning mobility to open up horizons.
An experiment aimed at young people
In Lens and across the Artois-Gohelle area, Transdev, in collaboration with Artois Mobilités, has launched the ‘A+ in the Bus’ pilot program to address a crucial issue: middle school students do not use the bus network, which significantly limits their choices for career guidance and internships in 9th grade. This social divide caused by a lack of mobility starts very early.
Objective
Teaching young people how to use the different solutions offered by the network to promote mobility autonomy, inclusion, and equal opportunities. ‘A+ in the Bus’ is a learning program that encourages collective, shared, and sustainable mobility, opens up opportunities through expanded mobility, and raises awareness of individual and collective sustainable mobility issues.
How?
- Fun preparatory activities: quizzes, board games
- An immersive hands-on training in virtual reality to learn the essential components of mobility: reading a timetable, a map, safety and civility rules (citizenship?), digital tools, etc.
- Real-life practice on the network to consolidate learning.
Impact
- More than 3,000 middle school students have been reached since 2020.
- Half of the trained students say they take the bus more often.
- Concerns about using the bus have dropped from 18.5% to 2.4%.
“Mobility is something you learn. With this program, we teach inclusive mobility and fight against the gap in everyday mobility.”
