Why The
Mobility Sphere ?
The Mobility Sphere by Transdev is a European think tank that explores the future of mobility.
The Assessment: A Need for Change [00:16] A daily necessity: Mobility is intrinsically linked to our everyday needs. An outdated model: Thierry Mallet (CEO of Transdev) highlights that our current urban model is obsolete and that a paradigm shift is essential [00:39]. A need for contact: We cannot simply restrict travel, because mobility responds to a fundamental human need for social connection [00:48]. The Methodology: “The Mobility Sphere” [01:14] A multidisciplinary approach: Mobility challenges must be addressed holistically, involving all stakeholders (political, technological, social). Subversive innovation: Neuroscientist Samah Karaki calls for being “subversive” in order to break habits and drive real change [00:53]. Tailored solutions: The aim is to design solutions adapted to the specificities of each territory [01:03]. The Objective: A Think Tank for the Transition [01:18] An inclusive transition: The goal is to create a space for reflection—a think tank—to discuss concrete solutions and ensure that the transition toward sustainable mobility includes everyone (“truly brings everyone on board”) [01:23]. Conclusion This initiative aims to define a new paradigm for mobility by 2050.
The Mobility Sphere aims to reveal the new paradigm for mobility in 2050, by bringing together experts from Europe.
Our approach to mobility takes into account the dynamics of transitions — whether they’re environmental, social, economic or territorial — and the collective transformation of urban spaces. We believe that mobility is the cornerstone of inclusive, sustainable and resilient cities. Experts, practitioners and public decision-makers have provided insights into these long-term challenges, which you can find here.
Throughout the year, the website will be regularly updated with answers from experts across Europe (videos, articles…), on topics such as design, public investment, climate, biodiversity…
Every year, we bring together a community of high-level experts, public and private decision-makers at high-impact events – the Mobility Sphere Forums – in major European cities affected by urban transitions.
