Innovation at the service of Hauts-de-France

Transdev Hauts-de-France makes innovation a priority to facilitate everyday mobility. Every day, we provide transportation for everyone thanks to innovative solutions: in Calais, we have integrated a river shuttle into the public transport network, and in Dunkirk, we have launched a real-time mobile app that is accessible to the visually impaired.

Avesnois Mobilités: promoting access to employment in sparsely populated areas

The Avesnois Mobilités experiment we are conducting in the Fourmies area aims to open up this rural area, where unemployment is high and access to transport remains underdeveloped. This innovation is fully in line with the Mobility Orientation Law (LOM), which it inspired and which seeks to promote transport in low-density areas.

At Transdev Hauts-de-France, we know that access to public transportation is a factor in the region's economic development and has a direct impact on employment. That is why we have co-designed daily public transportation solutions where none existed before, enabling the residents of Fourmies to travel to look for work and to get to their jobs.

Collaborative agility and co-construction with all stakeholders in the Fourmies metropolitan area are at the heart of the initiative and have enabled us to experiment with a range of mobility solutions since 2018:

  • Local transport: this service allows passengers to travel from stop to stop within the Sud Avesnois community of municipalities. In the morning, we guarantee arrivals at the station for trains bound for Lille, as well as return journeys in the evening. During the day, this service serves the community of municipalities' healthcare facilities.
  • Electric bikes: for short daily or occasional trips, for work or leisure, this innovative solution allows you to get around with complete peace of mind. To rent a bike, visit the Fourmies mobility center.
  • Rural carpooling: because cars are a legitimate mode of transportation, Avesnois Mobilité, in partnership with the Regional Intermodal Transport Authority (SMIRT), provides access to the Pass Pass Carpooling platform.

In addition to this transportation offering, we also provide three mobility support services to complement the approach:

  • A Mobility Center open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (at 27 rue Bleue in Fourmies + link to their website?).
  • Coaching workshops where anyone can sign up to discover the most suitable solutions and get help with their transportation choices. Working as a team, participants can then help each other with their mobility experiences.
  • A digital platform for services and access to employment.

Digital technology at the service of mobility

In Dunkirk, our Transdev Hauts-de-France teams have created DK’BUS Live, a new real-time mobile app for passengers using the urban community's bus rapid transit (BRT) network, which was launched in September 2018.

This application is a mobility portal that integrates:

  • Bus schedules at stops, in real time;
  • A dynamic network map showing the progress of buses on the routes;
  • A route search (including the SNCF TER regional train service).

Thanks to geolocation, the app offers Dunkirk residents nearby transportation solutions, a map of DK’Vélo stations and car parks in Dunkirk, with real-time availability.

The app also features voice synthesis, allowing users to obtain information audibly (timetables, routes, etc.), thus facilitating access for the visually impaired.
Finally, the “customer experience” section allows users to give their opinion on each journey and win gifts.

DK'BUS Live is available on Google Play and the Apple Store.

A river shuttle service to complement urban travel

In Calais, in 2013, we fully integrated a river shuttle into the urban network to enable Calais residents to travel via the city's canals.

Accessible with an urban network ticket and during docking times, passengers can take La Majest'in, which sails daily on the Calais canal, which has become a new possible route for travel.

By developing public river transport,

we offer travelers another way to discover the city, in an original way, away from noise and traffic—in short, a unique experience. For the metropolitan area, taking advantage of waterways provides a safe transportation service and better integrates waterways into the urban landscape.

The route is five kilometers long and has five stops. It connects with the bus network and bike rental service. To make the trip even more enjoyable and attractive, audio guides are available free of charge.
