Les Voisines à Vélo

When cycling becomes a lever for women’s empowerment and social cohesion.

Cycling at the heart of social transformation

In Strasbourg, the Eurometropolis partnered with Transdev to launch the ‘Les Voisines à Vélo’ pilot project, an innovative initiative that puts cycling at the heart of social transformation in the city’s Priority Neighborhoods.

Objective

Promoting women’s autonomy and inclusion by encouraging cycling, not only as a means of transportation but also as a source of freedom, well-being, and social connection.

The project is based on co-construction with voluntary participants representing the Jura-Citadelle neighborhood and relies on the strength of the collective to get those who wish back in the saddle.

How?

  • Workshops and meetings to freely express needs, constraints, and perceptions of cycling.
  • Pleasant shared experiences to build confidence and create a positive dynamic.
  • An inclusive approach that considers various goals associated with cycling: fitness, socialization, family activities, personal development.

Why?

Because cycling can truly be a lever for empowerment, offering a sustainable and accessible mobility solution while contributing to social cohesion.

Cycling can be a real lever for women’s empowerment and social cohesion. It’s essential to listen to their needs and create the right conditions for sustainable action: provide support, offer enjoyable experiences, and build confidence.
