Buses, at the heart of everyday mobility

At Transdev, buses are not just a means of transportation. They are a lever for access, inclusion, and transformation in local communities. Operating in 13 countries, we design customized, reliable, sustainable networks that are connected to the needs of passengers.

Our 3 priorities

Irrespective of network size (from 10 to 600 buses), our focus is on:

  1. developing an offer adapted to our clients and travellers;
  2. guaranteeing a service of quality;
  3. developing sustainable solutions designed to limit the environmental impact.

The bus, backbone of the urban network

  • Three families of road services: city bus, bus rapid transit on dedicated lanes, intercity coach.
  • Who we work with: local authorities, transport authorities and private companies.
  • Powertrains: battery-electric, bio-CNG and HVO, depending on the infrastructure available locally.
  • Related services: school transport, corporate shuttles, tourism services, on-demand transport.
  • Three priorities addressed with authorities: energy transition, accessibility for all, cost and resource optimisation.

Facilitating transport: coherent, legible and efficient networks

We constantly strive to improve our solutions thanks to the work carried out based on our knowledge of the concrete needs of travellers, companies and local authorities.

As such, we optimise our networks in accordance with real passenger flows, the rhythms of people’s lives and passenger usages. Our offer is therefore coherent and intuitive for travellers so as to facilitate their mobility and provide a better travel experience.

We also seek maximum efficiency to meet the needs of local authorities with reasoned means.

Did you know?

In our constant quest to find new innovations to reduce our environmental impact, we carried out tests in Brittany (France) on a car powered by natural gas (NGV) and with enough autonomy to run two days without needing to recharge.

The Result? Reduction of 95% in fine participle emissions, of 50% in sound, of 30%-50% in costs and more comfortable smoother drive for passengers. The aim of the pilot test is to use NGVs on all of our CAT29 lines.

Thanks to our multimodal expertise, we design reliable, efficient, and innovative networks that are designed to meet the specific needs of users and support local ecological transitions.

Frequently asked questions

An urban bus route serves a built-up area along a fixed itinerary and timetable, with closely spaced stops. It forms the backbone of a public transport network: it carries daily commuter flows, serves the city's main facilities and feeds passengers into heavier modes such as light rail or trains.

Transdev operates battery-electric buses alongside vehicles running on alternative fuels, notably bio-CNG and HVO. The choice depends on the network: route length, terrain, available charging or refuelling infrastructure, and the timetable set by the transport authority.

Transdev uses field data and mobile applications to deliver real-time information across its bus networks. Close monitoring of service quality, combined with a detailed understanding of how passengers travel, allows the offer, the frequencies and the connections to be adjusted to observed demand.
