Virtual reality eco-driving platform
Transdev STAC Chalon sur Saône, tests and deploys innovative tools to train drivers in eco-driving, in an efficient and sustainable way
To achieve this, Transdev has developed a virtual reality-based solution that allows drivers to record and replay their own driving on a mobile platform to see the effects for themselves: CO2 emissions savings, driving flexibility and passenger comfort, passenger safety during sensitive maneuvers. The progress made in eco-driving and on-board safety is striking.
The aim of this project is to design a tool that allows bus drivers to relive
the passenger experience using a motion simulator and an immersive application on a
1:1 scale.
This tool is designed to raise awareness among bus drivers:
eco-driving
passenger safety
passenger comfort
Bus journeys are recorded using a smartphone application specially developed for the occasion
The latter allows users to film the journey while recording the bus's movements using sensors built into the smartphone.
Once recorded, a bus journey can be replayed in a motion simulator. This innovative application can also be linked to data from the onboard system (SIRAC or other provider), which provides real-time fuel consumption figures and information on the vehicle's acceleration and deceleration, which affect its fuel consumption.
The objective is clear: to build a new generation of eco-driving training based on real-life experience and to permanently embed environmentally friendly behavior among bus drivers in order to generate a long-term reduction in consumption, thereby contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases and pollutant emissions.
