The Safety Quarter Hour with the AFT
Raising safety awareness through virtual reality.
Immersive safety: how VR is transforming driver training
Safety is one of our top priorities. To strengthen prevention and team commitment, we have launched Le Quart d'Heure Sécurité (The Safety Quarter Hour), a short, immersive program that raises drivers' awareness of road risks and best practices.
This innovative program is based on virtual reality (VR) and is provided by the AFT and deployed by Transdev in the PACA region.
It is an immersive training program consisting of safety awareness modules that allow drivers to experience realistic and memorable situations.
Several themes are available, but the teams are prioritizing:
- Crossing a railroad crossing
Evacuating a bus during a fire - These scenarios help to increase vigilance and responsiveness in critical situations.
This program has been awarded the Propulse 2025 label, illustrating our commitment to innovation in safety and to offering impactful educational experiences that promote prevention and quality of service.

Virtual Reality (VR) Training Kit Designed by AFT for Bus Evacuation (00:01) The training module is structured into several interactive phases: 1. Immersion and Scenarios (00:10) The user is placed in a realistic 3D environment where they can choose between two critical scenarios: Urban accident: Collision with a light vehicle [00:14] Rural accident: The bus tips onto its side after an impact with a vehicle in a curve [00:24] 2. Actions and Decision‑Making (00:30) The trainee must complete a series of timed actions to ensure passenger safety: Manual opening of doors or emergency exits [00:30] Window breaking: Using the safety hammer to break the glass [00:39] Emergency call: Dialing the correct number (15, 17, 18, or 112) [00:46] Passenger count & verification: Ensuring all passengers have evacuated [00:50] 3. Assessment and Learning (00:55) At the end of the simulation, a dashboard summarizes performance: Reaction time for each action [01:00] Success status (validated or not) The goal of this training is to professionalize drivers through an immersive learning method that combines innovation and educational value [01:02]. The project was developed in partnership with FNTV and KEOLIS [01:04].
