Marseille-Toulon-Nice: unveiling of the new trains in Région Sud

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region officially received its first Omneo trainset, manufactured by Alstom and operated by Transdev.

On May 19, 2025 in Marseille, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region officially received its first Omneo trainset, manufactured by Alstom and operated by Transdev. On this occasion, Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and Deputy President of Régions de France, was officially presented with the key to this first train by Thierry Mallet, Chairman and CEO of Transdev, and Frédéric Wiscart, President of Alstom France.

This trainset is the first of a fleet of 16 new-generation trains that will run between Marseille, Toulon and Nice from June 29, 2025: a national first in French rail history.

Doubling the number of trains, a totally new experience

Supported by the “Région Sud”, this opening to competition will double the offer on the coastal route:

  • 1 train every hour on weekdays (14 round trips, 16 on weekends),
  • Rates unchanged for subscribers,
  • A fully transformed onboard experience.

Alstom’s new Omneo Premium trainsets offer:

  • 1st and 2nd classes with luggage space,
  • New features: Wi-Fi, entertainment portal, local light catering and bike storage areas (12 slots/frame),
  • Level boarding for people with reduced mobility (PRM),
  • Increased personnel presence on board: passenger relations agents and private security guards, equipped with pedestrian cameras to complement video protection.

An eco-responsible train made in France

The fleet of 16 trainsets is manufactured by Alstom at its Crespin site in Hauts-de-France (France). Each 110-meter trainset can accommodate 400 seated passengers, and up to 730 in double-set configuration. These trains are designed to run at speeds of up to 200 km/h (160 km/h on the current line). The trains are powered 100% by green electricity. They will replace the five Corail trains on the line that have reached the age limit of 45 years.

To ensure their maintenance, a 2,000 square meter site has been built in Nice, as part of an eco-responsible approach. It will enable high-quality maintenance and maximum availability of rolling stock, essential to the promised 97.5% regularity.

Three complementary voices for a common project

We are the first region in France to have opened up our regional trains to competition. This project embodies our determination to offer a more ambitious public service, with double the number of trains on this route and unchanged fares, which will be reduced from July 1,2025. Trains that are more reliable and more sustainable, always at the service of users.
