TRAM Barcelona: Driving Sustainable Mobility and Urban Connectivity

With two interconnected systems—Trambaix and Trambesòs—the network serves over 30 million passengers annually and continues to evolve to meet growing mobility needs.

  1. It combines innovation, accessibility, and sustainability to shape the future of public transport in the region.
  2. Recent milestones include the extension of the Trambesòs line along Avinguda Diagonal
  3. It introduces cutting-edge catenary-free technology—the first of its kind in Spain

In Catalonia, Transdev operates TRAM Barcelona in partnership with Moventia.

The network consists of two systems: Trambaix (lines T1–T3) and Trambesòs (lines T4–T6), connecting suburban municipalities to Barcelona’s city center.

Each year, TRAM Barcelona serves over 30 million passengers, while promoting universal accessibility, gender equality in leadership, and strong environmental performance through high recycling rates and optimized energy use.

The extension of the Trambesòs line begins operating

On 10th November 2025, the first phase of the tramway connection along Avinguda Diagonal entered service, extending the T4 Trambesòs line from Glòries to Verdaguer. This new section spans 2 km through Barcelona’s city center, improving connectivity between Plaça de les Glòries and Carrer de Girona and linking several metropolitan municipalities. The project, launched in March 2022, aims to enhance urban mobility and reduce congestion.

The extension is expected to add 24,000 daily journeys and eliminate around 2,000 cars per day from the Diagonal, while improving interchanges with 4 metro lines and 14 bus routes. To meet demand, three new trams will join the fleet by early 2025, increasing capacity to 21 vehicles. The line also introduces an innovative catenary-free power system—the first in Spain—requiring fleet adaptation and marking a major technological milestone in sustainable transport.
