Transdev Sweden wins 8-year regional rail contract southwest of Stockholm

Transdev announced today that it has been awarded the contract to operate regional rail services in the province of Östergötland by the transit authority Östgötatrafiken, effective June 1, 2025.

Issy-Les-Moulineaux, January 31, 2024 – Transdev announced today that it has been awarded the contract to operate regional rail services in the province of Östergötland by the transit authority Östgötatrafiken, effective June 1, 2025.

The Östgötapendeln, a regional express network linking Norrköping with Tranås and Motala, carries around four million passengers a year. The initial eight-year contract includes a four-year extension option. Transdev Sweden is thus strengthening its position in the province of Östergötland, where it has been operating bus and light rail networks since 2004, and currently employs 370 people.

The contract covers traffic planning, maintenance of the electric trains (18 Alstom Coradia Nordic X61 trainsets) and long-term strategic development of the line, which today serves eleven stations and links public transport in Östergötland with that of Småland.

With this new contract, Transdev continues its rail development in Sweden, where the Group already operates the Roslagsbanan line in Stockholm, the Öresund trains in southern Sweden, and Snälltåget which - via Malmö - serves Denmark, Germany and the Austrian Alps. It is also a concrete expression of our strategy, which aims to bring people and regions closer together, with a triple objective: to give as many people as possible access to increasingly low-carbon mobility, safety for all and service reliability.

Thierry Mallet, Chairman and CEO of Transdev Group.
