How can we tackle mobility poverty?

Dominique Riquet: “Inclusion concerns both people and their activities — that is the very purpose of transport; otherwise, what is the point of moving around? I often say: if you commit a crime, then your punishment will be that you can no longer travel. So the worst thing that can happen to a society or an individual is to be condemned to immobility. Transport is life — the life of individuals. From that perspective, there can be no social inclusion, no ability to ease social tensions within society if we cannot provide everyone with access to inclusive mobility. There is a long way to go, first between different countries, then between different geographical areas. And there are also many social differences — meaning according to social class. It’s interesting: your ability to be mobile is directly correlated with your socio‑economic status. The higher your socio‑economic status, the more you will travel, the more you will take planes, the more means you will have to get around, and the more you will move from place to place — for professional purposes, for leisure, or for family and social relationships.”
Inclusive mobility is about the inclusion of both people and their activities, which is the purpose of transport. Otherwise, why move at all?
In my opinion, the worst thing that can happen to a society or an individual is to be condemned to immobility. Transport is life and the life of individuals. As such, there will be no social inclusion, no ability to socially appease societies, if there is no ability to bring everyone to inclusive mobility.
There's a long way to go between different countries. There are also many social differences. It's interesting to see that our ability to be mobile is directly correlated to our socio-economic status. The better your status, the more you'll travel: by plane and in many other ways. This applies just as much to professional activity as to leisure activities, family relationships or friendships.
