New forms of mobility in AuRA
The autonomous vehicle: a revolution in progress
At the latest electric and hybrid vehicle show in Val d'Isère, Transdev Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, as an official partner of the show, had visitors test drive the Group's latest 100% electric autonomous shuttle. We firmly believe that public transport is a key driver of more eco-friendly mobility. This is reflected in our use of hybrid vehicles and the introduction of electric vehicles. We test, experiment with, and implement solutions, and advise on the most advanced technologies. This enables us to offer our customers a comprehensive approach using a range of different technologies.
The bike
At Transdev Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, we support our partner local authorities Valence-Romans Déplacements, Saint-Etienne Métropole, Vichy Communauté, Arlysère, and Roanne Agglomération in managing their bicycle services, which can take various forms: self-service bicycles (VLS), medium- or long-term rentals, secure lockers and parking facilities connected to other modes of transport.
The development of bicycle services is perfectly complementary to the public transport network, with a view to integration to facilitate the daily mobility of residents.
Parking: helping local authorities with decentralization and decriminalization
Urbis Park Services, owned by Transdev Stationnement, designs, develops, and manages all types of solutions for comprehensive parking and traffic policies in all regions. In Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, Transdev Stationnement operates the Place des Arts car park in Thonon les Bains and the on-street parking in the same town. In Lyon, the Pathé cinema in the Vaise district also relies on Transdev Stationnement for the day-to-day management of its 860-space car park.
Walking
To encourage the simplest mode of transportation, the Grenoble Urban Area Mobility Experimentation Laboratory, known as LEMON and coordinated by Transdev, launched its collaborative project “Chrono en Marche” for the second time in September 2017. This collective from the Bouchayer-Viallet neighborhood of Grenoble has innovated in several areas to make walking easier. Thanks to a signage system called “le Gouvernail” (the rudder), which changes the relationship with cartography, we guide pedestrians in the right direction to their final destination. Le Gouvernail is a bit like a modern-day version of Tom Thumb, guiding residents step by step to the neighborhood's attractions.
What is Le Gouvernail? Le Gouvernail is a 100% mechanical innovation with no electrical connections [00:11]. It is a rotating panel that pedestrians can turn to align the map with their own orientation. By rotating the device, users can systematically place what they are looking for in front of them, making orientation "foolproof " [00:18]. Why is this a major innovation? Promoting “walkability”: The goal is to help pedestrians find their way around more easily to encourage them to walk more. This addresses public health and regional development issues [00:30]. Ease of use: By being well oriented and directed to the places they are looking for, people are much more willing to walk [00:43]. Versatility: This furniture can be installed in cities of all sizes, as well as in amusement parks, zoos, and natural sites [00:54]. Transdev's commitment For its 11 million daily passengers, Transdev is working with start-ups to devise safe and innovative mobility solutions [01:14].
