Every year, World Safety Day reminds organizations around the world of  shared responsibility: protecting people’s lives, health and wellbeing. At Transdev, this commitment goes far beyond a single day. Safety First is our number one priority, embedded in our culture, our operations and our sustainability strategy.

As a global mobility operator serving 14 million of passengers every day, safety is not only a requirement, it’s the foundation of the trust placed in us by passengers, employees, partners and public authorities.

Mobility connects people to jobs, education and essential services. But it must be safe, secure and reliable to truly support inclusive and sustainable communities. For Transdev, World Safety Day is an opportunity to reaffirm that protecting employees, passengers and the communities we serve is inseparable from operational excellence.

Safety and security are one of the key pillars of Transdev’s sustainability roadmap. They support:

  • The wellbeing of employees on the ground every day
  • Safe and trusted passenger journeys
  • Longterm performance and social responsibility
  • Strong partnerships with public authorities and local communities

By placing safety at the heart of its activities, Transdev strengthens confidence in public transport and contributes to safer and more resilient territories.

Five Safety Principles That Guide Our Actions

At the heart of Transdev’s safety culture are five common safety principles, developed with broad employee participation and applied across all operations. These principles guide everyday behavior and decisionmaking, regardless of role or location and adapted to the specificities of each country through a set of "Safety Golden Rules".

Pasadena Wildfire: Transdev Drivers Put Safety Into Action

On January 7, 2025, multiple wildfires broke out in the Los Angeles region including in mountains near Pasadena and became one of the most devastating California had ever seen. As flames surrounded neighborhoods, residents rushed to evacuate. Transdev’s bus drivers stepped forward to support emergency services with the massive evacuation effort. Despite the darkness, heavy winds and ashfilled air, drivers volunteered immediately and were escorted by police into the affected hills to bring people to a safer place.

Their actions reflected the company’s deeprooted safety culture. As one driver explained, “Safety First is the priority… they're expecting to get to where they need to be safely and get back home safely”. Transdev’s Pasadena operation normally moves 5,500 passengers a day, but during the crisis, their mission shifted to protecting the community and ensuring vulnerable residents could escape the fire.

Celebrated as heroes by Pasadena’s residents, these drivers demonstrated courage, solidarity and an unwavering commitment to service. Their response during the wildfire stands as a powerful example of how Transdev’s safety principles guide teams not only in daily operations but also in moments of extreme emergency.
