Imagine travelling without having to top off your smartcard balance and without having to hold it against a validator when accessing public transit. In Eindhoven, the Netherlands it is already possible to experience mobility of tomorrow, simply by having a mobile phone in the pocket.

In May 2022, passengers on bus lines 407 and 408 will be the first to experience ‘Check in, Check out’: checking in and out safely and easily with a mobile phone in one’s pocket. This is made possible by a collaboration between Transdev Netherlands, the platform MobyYou and the Province of Noord-Brabant.

A barrier-free check-in and check-out without having to use a public transit smartcard or debit card is also known as ‘Get in, Get out’. This technology has been the number one on the wish list of customers showed a survey last year by Transdev in the Netherlands of 4,000 customers.

In early April, the first test days took place; representatives of the Province, customer organizations and other transportation providers were invited to try out automatic check-in and check-out.

All transportation companies are always working on innovations that will enable us to serve our passengers even better. Within Transdev we find it important to share our knowledge. Together we’re going to see whether ‘Check in, Check out’ can be rolled out throughout the Netherlands in the future. That way, travelling by public transportation will become easier and easier.

Easier sercure payment

Transdev in the Netherlands developed this service together with MobyYou, a new Dutch service and payment platform. Their mission is to make daily life easier in a safe way. Customers use the MobyYou app to check in and out automatically.

We are indeed starting in public transport. But in general, MobyYou removes the checkout from every situation, both off- and online. For example, you no longer have to stand in line, create an account online or, as now in the bus, hold a pass against a terminal. Moreover, you determine with whom you do or do not share your personal data. So, it is up to you. It makes everyday life easier and you can pay safely anywhere. We say: no hassle with MobyYou.

Jeroen Pietryga, MobyYou CEO

The Province of Noord-Brabant supports this initiative of Transdev Netherlands and MobyYou with a subsidy.

Check in, Check out’ fits well with the innovative and progressive character of the province and the inspiring cooperation within Brainport Eindhoven. So, it’s great that we have this scoop and can test it out with the commuters from the High-Tech Campus.

Suzanne Otters-Bruinen, Province Commissioner

In the coming months, Transdev and MobyYou will optimize the ‘Get in, Get out’ service based on feedback from customers and bus drivers. Besides checking in and out, it is already possible to use the app to control the stop button in the bus. Based on the feedback, further possibilities to serve customers even better are being explored.

How can we help you to move forward?
