COVID-19 crisis: Transdev Partners with Contra Costa County Transit Authority to offer essential ride and delivery services

In Concord in California, Transdev is partnering with its client, Contra Costa County Transit Authority (CCCTA), in the San Francisco Bay Area to provide essential employee, services, food and supply shuttles to address a critical, emerging community need during the current COVID-19 outbreak.

The service has incorporated a weekday reservation system to ensure timely and efficient response and currently includes:

  • Shuttle transportation to essential employees who are needing transportation to their workplace, like hospitals, doctor’s offices, medical centers
  • Rides for life sustaining services, such as grocery store, pharmacy and medical appointments, as approved by CCCTA staff
  • Delivery of food in partnership with the Meals on Wheels organization
  • Delivery of essential supplies to any location in Contra Costa County and to approved destinations in adjacent counties as needed
  • Local General Manager Johanna Duran, and her Concord team, are working closely with Rashida Kamara, Manager of Accessible Services, along with employees and the union, to establish a group of team members who have had some additional training and the ability to respond to these essential services trips in the community we serve

Updates are being made to the existing Trapeze software to accommodate new trip types for the employee shuttles, food and supply deliveries so Transdev can track these trips and provide reliable data to adjust to the unique demands these requests present.

Transdev has received a great deal of positive feedback and reactions in the community from local senior centers, charitable organizations such as Meals on Wheels, along with ongoing communications with the county emergency operations center and client agency partners.

Transdev employees are continuing to observe social distancing practices based on Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and local guidelines, in addition to an even increased frequency of our cleaning and disinfecting processes, to ensure a safe environment for employees and those with whom they interact.

Since Transdev started these services, operators are returning from the workday with smiles on their faces and a newfound sense of gratitude for the ability to give back to the community in which they live. CCCTA also have taken the time to provide some nice comments and feedback.
